Grapefruit
Diet, Does It Work?
"
If you are thinking about going on the grapefruit diet then you
should understand what it is, what you eat, and how the diet
works.
Understanding these things will help you make a decision if the diet is
right for you."
|
The grapefruit diet has been around for many years. There
have never been any claims that the diet doesn’t
work. One of the versions of the diet includes a weight loss
of 10 pounds in 12 days. The diet promotes a quick weight
loss solution. It is important to remember that the
grapefruit diet doesn’t necessarily help people lose fat but
it causes them to lose fluids. |
So, when people lose their
desired weight from this diet, the weight usually comes back.
This diet is not considered a healthy diet for long term purposes and
is best when you need to quickly shed a few pounds to fit in your
favorite pair of jeans.
When you are on this diet, you really aren’t eating
only grapefruit. A typical breakfast can consist of two eggs,
two slices of bacon, coffee, and ½ grapefruit or a glass of
grapefruit juice. Your lunch will consist of a salad with
dressing, meat, and ½ grapefruit or a glass of grapefruit
juice. Dinner will be the same. You are not cutting
down on your foods. You are just adding a glass of grapefruit
juice or ½ of a grapefruit to each meal. As you
can see, on a normal diet you wouldn’t be eating bacon for
breakfast.
This diet works because it is low in carbohydrates and
moderate in protein. Your calorie intake should average from
800-1000 each day and you will lose weight. When calories are
reduced to these levels on the grapefruit diet, people lose weight and
there isn’t much of an explanation for why.
However, this fruit is known to reduce insulin levels in the body and
it is considered to be an excellent thing to eat for people with
diabetes. Grapefruit changes the way the body absorbs and
uses the sugars you are taking in and it tells the body to expel it out.
Grapefruit is very healthy because it is high in vitamin C and
fiber. Grapefruit also helps dieters feel like they are full
faster causing them to eat much less than they normally would if they
did not include a grapefruit with their meal. There
isn’t anything magical occurring when people are on the
grapefruit diet. They are just minimizing their calorie
intake to a lower level each day and including grapefruit with each
meal. It is very healthy for anyone. You
don’t have to be trying to lose weight when you are on
this diet. You might need to lower your cholesterol
or
just be healthier.
This diet really works for short-term dieting
plans. If you are looking for something that is more long
term then you might have to alter your eating habits a little more and
begin exercising more often too. You will notice a difference
in about 12 days with a loss of approximately 10 pounds.
