Why High Protein Foods Are Excellent
For Weight Loss
" High protein foods are great for
weight
loss. This is because it induces fat burn by proteins synthesis and
also suppresses the insulin levels in the body!"
Weight loss is the
in thing now. That is not such a bad thing because the obesity epidemic
is getting uncontrollable now a days. It is because of this, many types
of diets emerges like mushrooms coming out after the rain. One of the
diet tips that are often heard is about eating high protein foods.
Now, this really contradicts the conventional food pyramid. According
to the food pyramid, one requires eating only from 12 % to 20% of total
calorie consumption from protein and the majority of the other calories
comes from carbohydrate and some from fat. But the traditional food
pyramid has a few flaws because at present, the number of obese people
has increased dramatically!
A few reasons are that people misinterpreted the food pyramid and
tricked by food manufacturers. In the food pyramid guide, it states
that one should eat sugar sparingly, eat 9 to 11 servings of
carbohydrates and low fat. So, people tend to buy snacks and fast food
that are low fat but they did not know that it is loaded with sugar!
Besides that, there are many people out there that have bodies that do
not digest carbohydrates that well. They can gain weight easily by just
eating a bit of carbohydrates. Then, it is also very difficult to get
clean low fat low Glycemic carbohydrates if you eat out side. A lot of
food outside claims that they are healthy but actually they are loaded
with hidden fat and sugar. For example and healthy ceaser’s
salad with breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese and dressing.
So, actually following the traditional food pyramid have a few issues.
Hence, emerge the diets using high protein foods. High protein foods
have helped many people lose weight and have also helped kept the
weight off. A lot people misunderstood the term high protein foods.
When mentioned diets using high protein, the first that came into
their mind is the high fat diet or the Atkins’ diet. No, high
protein foods diets can be high in low fat protein balanced with
moderate or low intake of low Glycemic carbs.
Do you know that you can increase thermogenesis through protein
synthesis? Yes, you can! By doing more intense weight training and
consuming high protein foods, you can actually promote protein
synthesis and boost your body’s thermogenesis hence burning
more body fat!
There is also a study that supported this fact. There is a study
published by the American Journal of Physiology and in this study, one
group was given a high protein diet consuming over one gram of protein
of bodyweight per day and another group was given a diet with protein
almost equal to that of the RDA. By the end of the study, the group
that ate more protein burned 3 times more fat! The study also suggested
that the thermic effect of digesting the food peaks approximately one
hour after eating.
Consuming foods high in protein also helps muscle building and helps in
the workout recovery. With more muscle in the body, the more calories
you can burn. Not only that, taking more protein instead of
carbohydrates helps to regulate blood sugar levels. By mixing protein
and carbohydrates, you can prevent insulin spikes which is hazardous to
your weight loss program!
Foods that are high in protein are of poultry, beef, lamb, turkey,
fish, tuna, salmon, eggs, duck, veal, ricotta cheese, cottage cheese,
milk and soy beans. Look for sources that are low in fat. Fish and
turkey are best options. Egg whites are also good but eat it without
the yolk. Combine your protein foods with a bit of low Glycemic
carbohydrates and lots of vegetables. If you want to lose weight
effectively, spread your daily calorie intake into 6 meals. Sounds
crazy right? But it works! Eating smaller meals keeps the body
metabolism running high.
